GUBBELS, Cody Patrick James - Suddenly as the result of an accident on Sunday September, 8th, 2013 in Edmonton, Alberta. Cody Gubbels of Mt. Brydges. Cherished son of Patrick and Shirley Gubbels (nee Link). Best oldest brother and hero of Cade & Dane Gubbels (and our dog Maggie). Dedicated grandson to Marion Link. Will be sadly missed by grandmother Nellie Gubbels of Delaware, many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and too many friends to mention. Predeceased by his Blue Jays loving buddy (Grampa) Wilbert Link and Grandpa Gubbels. Cody had an adventurous spirit and lived life to the fullest. His motto was "Live life today because you may not be here tomorrow". Cody never sat still whether he was skateboarding, snowboarding or jumping from airplanes. He embraced every moment. Played hockey for the Mt. Brydges Cougars and Elgin Middlesex Chiefs and baseball for Delaware. Cody enjoyed refereeing and umpiring in Mt. Brydges and surrounding areas. Enjoyed refereeing at the AAA international tournament in Hamilton & Toronto. His adventurous spirit led him to Edmonton where he obtained his dream job as a welder. Cody was an outgoing, kind hearted, gentle spirited young man who made friends everywhere he went. Cody would have celebrated his champagne birthday on the 23rd of December, 2013. Friends were received by the family at the ELLIOTT-MADILL FUNERAL HOME , Mt. Brydges on Sunday, September 15th, 2013 from 2pm to 4pm & 7pm to 9pm. Funeral service was held from the Mt. Brydges Community Centre (Lions Park Drive) on Monday at 11am with Reverend Stephen Self officiating. Private Interment Mt. Brydges Cemetery. Donations to the Victims Services, The Crohns-Colitis Society, or the VON Middlesex would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
